Magraid Raid in the Magredi: that is a simple name which is actually able to say everything, evoking an African atmosphere.

The Steppe, in fact, is a worldwide phenomenon, but that of the Magredi is an atypical variation caused more by the permeability of the alluvial soil than by poor rains; that is an area where a unique ecosystem has developed. That is why the Magredi have been declared SCI (Site of Community Importance).

In the municipal districts of Cordenons, San Quirino, San Giorgio della Richinvelda, Zoppola, in the Magredi area of the rivers Cellina and Meduna, Province of Pordenone, Region Friuli Venezia Giulia. Base Camp in Località Parareit di Cordenons (PN).

Collaborations

In modern society, people look more and more for synergies and cooperation able to amplify the values of each single moving spirit involved.

The collaborations taking place are at different levels:

• Scientific: the Raid will undergo experimental tests whose results will be disclosed at a following Medical Congress.
• Tourist: the Raid aims at promoting the tourist potential of a wonderful but still little known area.
• Image Promotion. This SCI finds a particularly effective communication mean in the Magraid.

Magraid: the Aim

Magraid is a race raid and, therefore, its aim is to win. To this purpose, athletes must run through the Magredi discovering a natural and precious phenomenon that must be not only protected but also known and appreciated. The atmosphere is definitely particular; athletes will run in a steppe environment with mainly gravelly soil.

The Laps

Three laps – one of which is a Marathon – for a total of 62 miles.

Runners will run under partially self-sufficient conditions; water will be actually supplied, even though runners must start with a liquid reserve.

The two nights of the Raid will be spent by runners at facilities prepared by the Italian Army in an atmosphere of a real adventure in the desert.

In case of need, hotel accommodations will be available for runners’ friends and family members.

For runners’ friends and family members there is a programme full of variety with different cultural offers as well as food and wine tours in order to discover the Magredi land, its ecosystem and the typical products of these “poor soils”.
